Frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Canadian temporary visas

How long is a Canadian temporary visa valid?

A visitor visa can be valid for up to 10 years, or until one month before your passport expires, but the border officer decides how long you may stay on each entry — usually up to six months. Study and work permits are tied to your program or job.

Do I need an invitation letter?

Not for a visitor visa, but if you are visiting family or friends, a genuine invitation letter helps show the purpose of your trip. For the super visa, a letter of invitation from your child or grandchild is required.

Can I work or study on a visitor visa?

You cannot work in Canada as a visitor. Courses of six months or less are possible without a study permit, but longer studies or any work need their own permit.

How much does a temporary visa application cost?

Government fees differ by visa type and are listed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on its official website. Our service fee is separate and confirmed with you before any work starts.

How long does processing take?

It depends on the application type and your country of residence, and it changes often. IRCC publishes current processing times on its official website, and we go over them with you in the assessment.

What if my application is refused?

We first review the reasons in the refusal letter and, if needed, the officer's notes. Then we address the weak points and, where possible, submit a new, stronger application. In some cases other legal options exist.
